Déjà vù - people do not change even over centuries
My contribution to this exhibition, entitled Déjà vù, focuses on the fact that, over the centuries, the scenes depicted show similarities, which are probably due to the fact that although our surroundings may have changed as a result of technological progress, the people inside have remained the same.
The following images are juxtaposed in combinations of two:
A bearded elderly gentleman at the Fuhle kiosk vs. Rembrandt's Portrait of an old man in red (1652/1654)
2 female colleagues discussing something confidential while looking at their smartphones vs. Vermeer's lady, whose maid is probably handing her a love letter (1666/67).
2 girlfriends waiting for the third to arrive in the Schanzenviertel in Hamburg to go out together vs. Renoir's painting of two girlfriends on a hectic Parisian boulevard (1877).
