Rusty Symphony

Ochre, earth that contains a lot of brown ironstone, has long been used by humans as a colorant for artistic design. Even the first cave painters used ochre pigments to depict hunting scenes and ritual acts. Rust, the oxide of iron contained in brown ironstone, is long-lasting and durable, although rust is a symbol of the transience of man-made things. The warm hue of the iron oxide varies from bright, luminous ochre to the natural brown tones of burnt earth to an almost black hammer blow. Rust offers the eye an exciting contrast when combined with the bright colors of the rainbow palette. In the "Rusty Symphony" collection, I take up this effect and show rivers and coasts that unfold their full beauty in this colorful field of tension. The transience of what has been created by man from iron and steel since the beginning of the Iron Age can be depicted in rich contrast with the help of iron ground without many words, whether in the medieval Viking kingdom or in the postmodern reality of our industrial culture.
